I've had HDTV for several months.

I got my set a couple of days before I got HD service and I spent a
couple hours working on the aspect ratio. The set has a setting
(which can also be controlled from the R/C) for aspect ratio. Settings
are: 1:1, aspect, full, panoramic, zoom 1, and zoom 2. "aspect" works
best, except when the picture has black bars on all four sides, then
"zoom 2" works best.

Then I got HD service on the cable, and I use an HDMI cable. I spent a
couple more hours fiddling with aspect ratios to get the best
combination I could. The cable box has a "picture format" setting:
auto DVI/HDMI, fixed, upconvert 1, and upconvert 2. I found that
"auto DVI/HDMI" worked best. Then there is a setting on the R/C:
normal, zoom 1, zoom 2. And if you are on an HD channel, "stretch" is
also available. I found that normal works best, unless there is black
on all four sides, then "zoom 1" works best, and it works better than
"zoom 2" on the TV.

So that is my setup.
