I printed up your instructions and will try to see what I find,
probably this weekend. A couple of notes that may or may not be of
interest here:

1. When we took home our upgraded HD cable box last June, we had to
phone Comcast and wait a few minutes before we got HDTV.
2. We got my wife's small TV later (when her old small one next to
her computer broke).
3. My mother-in-law replaced her TV when she switched retirement
homes, with a HDTV. Since she never used either the built in DvD
player nor the built in VCR because she was afraid it would break her
settings - she got the simplest connection possible. She did not ask
Comcast for a box, and just uses the remote control that came with her
TV.
4. For silly political reasons, the Denver area does not yet have HD
broadcasts.

I'd love to get HD for as many of these three TVs as possible -
bypassing the cable box.
