No. "Installation" usually refers to mounting it on the wall, which is
not necessary. Plop it onto a table.

Digital boxes enable you to receive digital pictures, which you said you
are not subscribing to; they do *not* improve pictures.

Anyway, don't
be so pessimistic. Quality is in the eye of the beholder. If you "need
to buy a new TV" (your words), your old one's quality has probably
deteriorated so much that your new one will look terrific.
