A Bewildering Array of HDMI Cable Choices

I need to buy some HDMI cables for the new HD LCD display I'm buying.
I'll need one to connect my Comcast DVR to the TV. I'll need one to
connect my DVD player to the TV. I'll need one to connect either the
DVR to the sound system or the TV to the sound system whichever what
it hooks up (and answer to this would also be helpful, since box to
box is three feet and box to tv is 6 feet) Everyone warns that I
must buy high quality HDMI cables, but I haven't been able to find
that defined anywhere. I just went to buy cables and was faced with
a bewildering array of choices and no guidance (except salesmen who,
well . . .). I can't even buy the most expensive and figure I've got
the right thing because some are equally priced with different
descriptions.
Some are 1.3a, some not. Some are category 2, some not. Some are
silver plated copper, some not. Some are tin plated copper, some not.
Some have gold plated connectors, some don't. Some are flat, some
not. Some say "In-Wall Installation" some don't. Some are CL-2
rated, some not. Some have ferrite cores, some don't. Some are
male-to-male, aren't. Some have built-in Equalizers, some not.
I think that about covers it except for colors black, white, red,
blue, green, orange, purple, and yellow. I assume colors are for
décor coordination, but maybe not.
Anybody know of a webpage that sorts all this out?
