Re: Are HDTVs NTSC and/or PAL?

I am asking about those sold in the USA. I hooked up an all region
DVD player to my Samsung HL50A650. The DVD setup menu asked me if
my
TV is NTSC, PAL or Multi. I chose multi since I thought HDTVs are
compatible with all formats. However, when I tried to play a
Region 2
PAL disc, the TV displayed an "unsupported format" message. When I
changed the TV type to NTSC, the disc played since then the DVD
player
does the conversion from PAL to NTSC. Why wouldn't recent HDTVs be
multi?

Because it costs money and we are notoriously cheap about our
purchases. Since the DVD does the conversion, what exactly is the
problem?
