You've failed to understand this coupon program is for a cheap converter, not a cheap antenna. The government's coupon program for cheap antennas will begin after 1Q09. It will be a two-tier offering, one for inside and one for outside antennas. Rumor has it that government safety inspectors will do follow-up inspections to ensure people haven't violated safety rules by installing 8-bay VHF/UHF combo antennas on their coffee tables, or bunny ears on the roof. The latter would also render the house itself in violation of municipal fire and/or electrical code restrictions for placement of ungrounded external metallic structures. Government program inspectors have also indicated they'll likely inform the local HOA enforcement committee of this code violation wherever necessary.

If this is a scam to support big business, you ain't seen nuthin yet. And yes, this is a cop-out by making one thing look better by making something else look worse. I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.

Some of us don't have a coffee table big enough to hold an 8-bay VHF/UHF combo. Mine would only support a four bay.
