There is only one pin-out standard for the 3-row 15-pin "D" style VGA connector.
The cable you describe should work.

VGA uses RGB. That is, there are 3 separate video signals broken down into the
discrete primary colors red, green, and blue. This is different than the YPbPr
signals on "component" video (usually using 3 "RCA" connectors but can be in
some cases using 3 "BNC" connectors).

I have connected desktop computers with the computer VGA port (that works with
computer monitors) going to the VGA port of an LCD TV. And that worked fine.

The "PC input" of any TV should conform to the same standards.

Since you have gotten the laptop to work with other monitors fed by that VGA
port it has, then obviously that port works.

Remaining possibilities:

1. The VGA port on your Sharp LC26DV22U is broken/dead. Can you test it on
a different computer?

2. The VGA connector is not in all the way. I've found that with flat panel
LCDs, it's hard to tell if the connectors are in all the way due to the
awkward (for purposes of hand access) angles involved.

3. The Sharp LC26DV22U is exceptionally picky about geometry/frequency of the
computer video signal. Try other resolutions including 640x480, 640x400,
and 800x600.
