Late last year I bought a plasma TV. One of the factors in choosing the plasma set was that we are not game players. Well, my wife saw the Wii Fit and decided that she wants one.Does your plasma have a Game Mode? My Panasonic does, but Burn-In on Plasma's these days is pretty hard to do, you may get a little IR (Image Retention) but that will go away. Playing games generally are nothing to worry about, it's the things in the game that stay up on the screen in the same place all the time. So some games you may have zero problem at all, and others a minor problem, but unless your playing the same game for 8 hours a day, day after day, I wouldn't worry. If it's for a few hours, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Plasma's these days are far better. Many different things have been done and Burn-In really isn't a worry these days, just IR and it will go away after a little bit. I did get my Plasma with Gaming in mind!!! I never had Burn In on my older CRT Rear Projection HDTV either. My brother also got a plasma recently and he has a PS3 and a Wii!!!
If we hook up a Wii to our plasma set, is there anything we can do to mitigate any kind of image retention/burn in other than not use it for long periods of time? What constitutes "a long period of time"? Would setting the brightness, color, etc on that input to lower/dimmer settings help?
Thanks for any info.
I would let a Plasma get 100 to 200 hours on it first before any heavy gaming, also turning down the brightness a bit may not be a bad Idea, but unless you have it cranked up, I wouldn't worry about it.
