Wii with a Plasma TVii

Late last year I bought a plasma TV. One of the factors in choosing the
plasma set was that we are not game players. Well, my wife saw the Wii Fit
and decided that she wants one.

If we hook up a Wii to our plasma set, is there anything we can do to
mitigate any kind of image retention/burn in other than not use it for long
periods of time? What constitutes "a long period of time"? Would setting
the brightness, color, etc on that input to lower/dimmer settings help?
