Someone posted having done this without taking
the set into a clean room. Wound up with specks
of dust on the rear of the screen and on the
mirrors.
Glad I brought that up then. Thanks.
Cleaning with a warm water solution with a very small amount of dish soap will normally remove any normal debris. However anything that has actually stained and discoloured the plastics probably will not come off, Good example is the nicotine stains from heavy tobacco use in the residence, or materials that over time have been smashed between the screens. Very light to moderate pressure when cleaning these is advised, do not press too hard, The lenticular has paint between the lines, over zealous cleaning procedures will remove the paint and leave an useless item.>Extreme care must be used when doing this, especially with the lenticular that can be very easily cracked due to it's particular properties.
Personally the use of lint free cloths and distilled water seem to have a very positive effect in cleaning these items.
If you residence includes smokers, pets (Cats and Dogs, Etc.), or the use of fireplace or humidifiers (using normal tap water - airborne contaminates), you will find your results less that satisfactory. At which time you will need to justify the cost of a new screen assembly.
Suggestion: Nothing ventured is nothing gained! Your experience in doing this may be justified with a nicer looking picture if appropriate procedures and care are exercised. Cheers.
