Hi Folks:
My Aunt bought this Plasma TV about a year and a half ago. A few
months ago, while watching it, it popped and went dead. I use to fix
TVs back in the days, so they asked me to take a look at it. I found
a dual-diode exploded, which I figured was the source of the load
bang. It had a Panasonic number, which I couldn't find Englisg data
for, but I replaced it with two separate diodes. I don't think power
was a problem here as the diode wasn't on a heat-sink. When I turned
it on, the fans ran for a couple of seconds then stopped. The power
light (LED) was blinking 10 times. I didn't have any tools so I pulled
the board (later called the inverter I guess) and took it to work.
There are 10 IGBTs on this board, arranged in two groups of 5. All
were shorted to some extent. 5 were 2PG001 and 5 were 2PG003. This
comes out to 300 and 430 volt devices. I found Digikey cross-
references to a 300 volt device, but no 430 volt device. There are
higher-voltage IGBTs, but some are damn slow! Anyway....
What is this? What's the frequency? Is this a half-bridge? Why one
half 300V the other 430V? How much pulse-current is needed? 5 of these
devices are parallel Each device is good for 40A I think. With the fan
just above the board, this must get pretty hot! I'm thinking heat
hurt it.. I guess I'm just going to swap parts and hope for the best.
It's not a store-bough TV.
Check out the temp on the parts after you get it running. If it's high what would you plan on doing to reduce it?
I search Panasonic Plasma and found LOTS of issues almost.
identicle, e.g. pop, dead, 10 blinks.
I seen whole boards for sale on the web for $200. (out of another
used TV) but evidently, these broke in new TVs, too, some never worked
out of the box! I'm glad I bought an LCD years ago.
