If you use BeyondTV as your 'TIVO' software with your hauppauge and
PC, it
will auto cut out the commercials, rejoin the clip as one and
re-encode to
wmv, xvid, divx, or h264 for you overnight as you sleep.
If you use ReplayTV, you can watch it as it's recording AND skip the
commercials, because the commercial markers are put in while it's
recording.
You can of course watch while it's recording and skip around, but with
Beyond it doesn't set commercial markers until after recording the show
has finished.
You may not realize it, but he's talking about an old antiquated ReplayTv
single analog tuner recorder. It can't do anything with HD. It can't even
record it, much less flag it. Many newer programs like MythTv will mark
commercials as recording them so you can skip them immediately. I have no
idea why he thinks the ReplayTv is the only one that can do what it does.
