6 bills seemed about cheapest...
I paid 5 and bit and it wasn't the cheapest player.
Like DVD players of yore, BD players will come down as there are several manufacturers and now withering doubt as to what format to use.
I have to say, the bigger screens are nice and flatness and all, but the real 'jump out and grab you' NEW character of this technology that justifies the expense doesn't really start until you take advantage of the full 1080 pixelation. That means Blue-Ray, right? I think I may have been about a year too early to get into this.
Thoughts and comments?
HD-DVD and BD delivered pretty much the same quality to the screen. As most titles are produced at 1080p that is the perfect display match regardless of which you use. Now that HD-DVD is terminal, we can focus on one format and enjoy watching the prices come down over the next couple years.
Also, regular DVD's played on a BluRay machine into a HD television give more detail (after up convert) than they do on a normal television. So much of your DVD collection is safe. Only new movies or the more visually stunning and detailed movies need to be re-purchased. In my case this is less than half a dozen movies... maybe less.
Kudos to Toshiba for dropping out. Honorable (and good business practice) is good to see.
