They are quite common in India.

You'd be amazed. There are villages with better internet access than 25%
of the USA, but do not have clean running water at all. As many places do
emerge out of a primitive age, they make choices like water vs. internet.
Unlike so many people in the USA who have no idea how to bath in a hand
carried tub of river water, people in many places in the world do that
every week. Then they read news on the internet (powered by their hand
or peddle cranked generator charged batteries) about how so many homes in
the southeast of the USA are unable to water their lawns due to a drought
and laugh at our dependency. It's all a matter of what one is used to.
