Samsung rear projection

hello all, I`m a newbie to this group, so I hope my question isn`t too old. I bought a samsung 42 inch rear projection tv about 4 years ago. It says in the manual and on the front of the set, it is HD ready up to 1080i. I finally bought an xbox 360 , which is my first try at HD. The tv says on the screen "unsupported mode"for every resolution above 480. What is wrong? have I been ripped off 4 years ago, or is there something I have to do which I havn`t done?. I`m using the conponent cable which same with the xbox. Many thanks, Derrick
