my limited viewing sample leads me to believe that, in general, the
plasmas provide a better, more pleasing picture, especially if you are
watching from an angle...not everyone can set right in front of the
screen....
....

However, if you will be mostly watching movies in dark room, plasma is often
recommended. If you watch a lot of TV and sports in a room that is often
well lighted, you will probably be happier with the latest LCD's.
....

I would like to elaborate a bit on the above comment that the big
difference in the ability of handling room light is between the
screens that has a matt (non-gloss) screen surface versus the screens
that has a glossy screen surface.

There are LCD models that has a glossy surface and there are
differences between plasma models in handling room light.

For plasmas, the level of "black" that is reflected back to the viewer
varies more with room light than the LCD types.

And with LCD types, it is best to leave some bias light on.
This is because what we perceive as black depends on the bias light
and what other "black" objects there are in view.

The glossy types of panels also work as a mirror. To me it is a big
advantage for the LCD models that are sufficiently matt and
sufficiently black, that I don't see any mirrored images of myself or
the white coffee cop in front of me. This makes me perceive more depth
in the picture.

Also notice that there are significant differences between different
models in handling and smoothing motions in the picture from different
types of picture processing in addition to the typical differences
between plasma and LCD techniques.
