Hello,
We just purchased a 42" LCD HDTV and they installed an upgrade to our
DishNetwork system today. After checking out all the HDTV channels
they offer, some of the channels which are in both SD and HD are quite
disappointing... For example A&E, TBS, and TNT's HDTV channels seem
to just be stretched out versions of their SDTV station. The HD
station does look better, but the 4x3 picture has been distorted and
stretched to 16x9. I can put my TV in 4x3 ratio and it looks okay,
but why not just do bars on the left and right like some of the other
stations?
Some other stations do it right though, like Food Network and HGTV...
they appear to have completely different programs on their HD and SD
stations.
Just curious.. I feel like a few of these "HDTV" channels aren't quite
up to snuff. Stretched pictures aren't what I want to watch :)
Also, any reason why HDTV stations are about 25% the volume of SDTV
stations? Switching from an HD station to SD station blows me away on
the volume...
But as a whole I'm very happy with HDTV.
Alex
Many of the new hd channels are in "stretch-o-vision".
Until there is more hd content, that is how they have
chosen to handle non hd content. Other hd channels do
it better by showing the original aspect ratio.
