I presently have a old style tower antenna on our house. I bought

Antenna? Will there be a noticeable difference. When I first
got
my plasma TV I was getting lost of channels (12 or so). Now I
only
get about six (I am suspect my cheap amplifier box is fried, that

antenna
likely to improve my HDTV picture? They claim to reach 40-50
miles. Thanks.

I'm using the SS-1000 in 90274 35 miles from the towers and have line-
of-sight to Mt. Wilson. It is not a high gain antenna at all but has a
reasonable front/back ratio. There is sufficient signal to split 4
ways with rock solid reception. If your old antenna is indeed old and
corroded and has crummy cable, nearly anything would be an
improvement. I just installed a Winegard HD7082 for my mother in law
with line of sight to Wilson 40 miles out With binoculars you can see
the towers. She only watches NTSC but there are no ghosts on any
channels and it works very well. The only downside on that antenna is
that it looks like an antenna while the SS-1000/2000 looks more like a
dish but aimed in the wrong direction. On ours and moms antenna I put
clear heatsink grease on the outside F connectors to keep the dampness
out and prevent corrosion. The antenna that came down had the silicone
grease on the connector 15 years ago when I put that one up and while
tha antenna was done, the F connector looked new with no trace of any
corrosion. BTW, the old antenna was not working poorly until the
roofers finished it off during roof replacement.
