HDTV: switching to a WINEGARD TV ANTENNA improve HDTV channels?

I presently have a old style tower antenna on our house. I bought a
plasma TV recently. I was just curious if it would improve my
reception if I switched to a Winegard SS-2000 Square Shooter TV
Antenna? Will there be a noticeable difference. When I first got
my plasma TV I was getting lost of channels (12 or so). Now I only
get about six (I am suspect my cheap amplifier box is fried, that
would explain it. it does not feel warm, maybe it's dead). In any
case, back to my question, would switching to a Winegard tv antenna
likely to improve my HDTV picture? They claim to reach 40-50
miles. Thanks.
