16:10 computer monitors (I've never seen a 16:10 HDTV), when large enough, can display the contents of two pages of letter sized documents (side by side) efficiently.

Makes sense to me that, as CRTs are displaced by LCDs, computer manufacturers would take advantage of flexibility of form factors to produce a better product.
