OK, I found the Walmart brochure. It says:
"Home Entertainment Connections, What Cables will I need to Set Up My
Home Entertainmnt Theater? What cables do I need for video? HDMI (High
Definition Multimedia Interface) HDMI is considered
the best cable for HDTV hookups, because it carries a true digital video
signal and digital audio signal to HDMI equipped TV's and home theater
systems from components like cable boxes, DVD players or satellite
receivers. DVI (Digital Video Interface) for HDTV, The latest, state of
the art video-only connection. Component, superior to all other types of
video connections, except DVI."
I left most of the brochure out where it goes into S-Video, composite,
coaxial F-pin, etc. Sorry I got AVI mixed up with DVI. Anyway, it says
that component is the best hookup after DVI. The best video-only hookup,
I guess.

Aside the hdcp issue, dvi and hdmi are the same except
dvi carries no audio. Almost always hdmi/dvi will look
better than component. Rarely, depending on the display,
component will look better.
