Re: urgent ..need info on large size TV

Linda,

Circuit City is having a sale on the Hitachi 55" LCD Projection HDTV
(55VS69)
for $999. That is an LCD based rear projection TV. For 6 years of
use, you will probably have to change the bulb once, but that still
puts you around your target cost for 6 years.

The other possibility is to buy a cathode ray tube (CRT) based read
projection TV. Sears may still have some left. I do not think they
are made anymore, but the image quality is high and the price is dirt
cheap. Sears had a sale on a 51" Hitachi monitor set (no HDTV tuner
that you hook up to cable or a sat dish ) for just $599. That is an
incredible price for a 51" TV. That sale is over, but you might call
Sears and see if they have any 51", 56" or 65" rear projection CRT
based TVs left for sale. They are a bargain and they should last 10
years, with no bulb to replace. The only drawback is that they have
larger cabinets to hold the CRTs. Another advantage, however, is that
they do not need a stand, which costs money, and they come with
rollers so they are easy to move around despite their size. They also
tend to have much better built in speakers than the smaller, thinner
DLP, LCD, LCOS sets.

We are very confused. So many technologies.

Would like a 50 to 56 inch TV or thereabouts.

We have a large room.

max budget around $1300.

There is DLP, Plasma and LCD etc ..

Which one is better and why ?

Walmart, Frys, Best Buy , Circuit City all offering different
products,
technologies etc.

We Don't care about brand and
not very particular on fanatastic picture quality.

Just want a good reliable TV that gives us best value for the money.

That can last 6 years or so.

Also any info on TV stands ? what to avoid ?

Pls advise.

Thanks
Linda
