I have a 73" dlp, and my SD looks pretty damned good (cable).
Looks pretty good on my 46" Sharp Aquos. Have notice that older TV
shows, ie 70's sitcoms, do look pretty bad, but current stuff looks
great. If it's worse than a standard TV, I can't tell. Certainly
wouldn't waste money on a large screen SDTV. because of that.
I was walking through one of the tape rooms today at work and saw one
of those '70s sitcoms running on a 2" quad videotape machine (Ampex
AVR-3). You would be surprised at the picture before it gets
'processed' for cable. These transfers are going into the restoration
department to get cleaned up a little more and will then show up as
'nth season of ---' on DVD.
