I was reading through my manual for my TV that I bought about 7 or 8
months ago. It is a Standard Definition TV. In the manual, it said
that it had the capability to attach a DTV receiver to it. I was
wondering if this means that I can rent an HD box from my cable
provider and it would work. I'm just curious as to whether it would or
not.
It would probably work fine, but it would not give you an HD picture. Nearly all HD tuners and/or digital TV tuners have the capability to output to a standard 4:3 television. If you are using one of those tuners to receive a widescreen HD signal, the unit will display it in wide screen on your 4:3 set, leaving blank areas above and below the actual image. Needless to say, this will not give you particularly good resolution, but it will work.
