Gold is not a better conductor than copper!

Monster cables are just copper. No big deal and not worth the price.
Now if they were
"silver" wire, then we can talk. I have a silver usb with gold ends
that is great, and worth the extra price. mes.
How are you comparing your silver USB w/ gold ends to a regular cheap
copper USB to determine the silver is better?
normally oxidize while silver and copper do. Silver oxide is still a
good conductor while copper oxide is not. (copper oxide makes a good
rectifier) OTOH I doubt if any of us could tell by the way they work
which material is used in any normal length cable. Over the long run
(many years) it *might* make a difference. Still, if the jacket is
made of good material and hasn't been damaged the copper should still
be nice and shiny after may years.
Gold connectors are better for longevity (virtually all computer
boards use gold plated pins and sockets now days), but I doubt any one
could see the difference in performance. HOWEVER if a company spends
the extra money for gold connectors and silver (plated) wires, they
probably take the time to build a good quality cable.
However I do believe most HDMI cables are vastly over priced, but part
of that is due to the still relatively small market.
