Re: Does anyone have any real life data on the Samsung HL-S5679W

Oh God yes.

In early November, I bought a new Sony 75 dvd player with HDMI. The TV and
the Sony did not sync up.

After trying unsucessfully to obtain the phone number for Samsung from
TVAuthority, I finally looked it up... 1-800-SAMSUNG. Gee, wonder why the
fine folks at TVA didn't know that number...

Anyways, Samsung told me the dvd player was at fault. So, I purchased a new
Tosh HD-A1. That didnt work. Called Samsung again, told me the dvd player
was at fault. That I needed to update the firmware. Did that. Both players
work fine on the HP plasma, but NOT on the Sammy 6168.

On November 15, 2006, a mere what 10 weeks ago, I called for service. Just
barely out of the warranty, they extended it. Paul's TV came out. Late of
course. Said thay'd get back to me. Never did. Blah blah. Samsung lost my
file, wait, they found some of it... Two Fridays ago, I was told that I was
eligble for a replacement set. Last Friday, I was told this was being
refered to the Executive Resolution Team or some such bs, they'd be calling,
never did. Oh and the Samsung Product Specialist tried to call me, couldn't
get through. Funny, no one else ever has a problem, and hey, they have my
email - I get a lot of SamSpam now.

13 phone calls to Samsung later, I am now being told that the set is out of
warranty and that I have to pay to get it fixed even though they said it
would be repaired under warranty and technically this is an HDMI HDCP design
defect, a manufacturing defect so it should be fixed regardless.

I could go on and on, but let's just say that --
This is absolutely the most horrid service experience I have ever had...
it would be much easier to get the original manufacturer to fix a damn Yugo
that to get Sam to honor the warranty.

The moral - Buy a Samsung and/or deal with TVAuthority and you take your
chances... (if I would have known, I would have bought Enron and MCI stock
instead of blowing $3500 on this broken piece of technology).
