Two big things wrong with remote:

1. It just doesn't work very well, the IR sensor on the TV itself
seems to be half blind. If you hold the remote right next to it, it
sometimes recognizes every 3rd button push.

2. The remote system itself has no "discrete" codes, absolutely everything
remembers where it was last time and starts from there - even the menu
system remembers the last menu item you had up and starts there again.

The combination of these two make it pretty much impossible to make
the thing be computer controlled for a home automation system (though
in my idle moments, I sometimes speculate about pointing a web cam at the
top right corner of the screen where the remote feedback messages show
up and running the image through a filter to pick out the green text
and an OCR program to determine what it just said :-).

I'm using a Logitech Harmony remote with it, and the Harmony seems to
blast a somewhat stronger signal than the remote that came with it,
so it is a bit more acceptable, but I still had to program the Harmony
with buttons that are normally "automatic" so I can push them
manually when the first one didn't work.

Despite all this, I don't regret getting the thing - the image is great,
and the price is about half what the Samsungs and Sharps of the world
seem to charge for all the extra stuff I don't need.
