Hi everyone,
Hopefully I can get some help on this....
I have a 2001 MITSUBISHI WS-65807 , connected to a Kenwood receiver
VR407, I have a Panasonic progressive scan DVD, and 5 channel surround
sound. I have had this setup for over 5 years almost six and it has
been outstanding for watching movies. (have 1200 SDs)
Well after waiting for my local cable to carry hi-def for years I
finally buckled and got Dish network with a DISH811 HD reciever.
My TV has these capabilities (not that I have much of a clue what they
mean)
1) Component 480i/480p
2) DTV YPrPb/GRBHV 480i/480p/1080i
If anything like the WS 55511, you should have a 1080i component input
(component 1, I believe). You also have to go into your netcommand and
enable the input as so it will show up when using the "device" key on the
remote.
I took a quick look on the Mits website, and they didn't offer the 807
series manual, but had the 809. It shows the component inputs on page 13
that are the same my WS 55511, with a 1080i component input.
So my problem is that I can't get my TV to recognize the HD signal
through the dishnetwork receiver. The tech guy from Dish was
absolutely no help.
They usually aren't.
I have double checked the connections and believe I have the correct
cables attached but perhaps I am in error there. I am a little
confused on all the various cables (HDMi, S-vide, ....)
You don't have HDMI on your set. Component only for anything above 480i
resolution.
SO my questions are this?
From my stats above it looks like the best I can get to visually is
the 1080i..
That would be the best signal offered from your provider....
1) will my television be able to support a HD DVD player?
Your set has 1 component 1080i input. So you would need some type of input
switching mechanism such as a receiver that has multiple component inputs.
As well, you may want to check to see if HD DVD players will output through
component, as it may be that only HDMI output is offered.
2) If yes what type of HD-DVD should I being looking at? I have read
quite a bit about upconverters. Will these take my existing SD DVDs
and convert them to a higher resolution like 780 or 1081? Or does it
take the Hd-DVD's and convert them so my TV can recognize the signal?
If you are talking about upscaling DVD players, Oppo makes on that outputs
via component. NuoNeo also makes them. You will still need something to
switch between them (component switching units are available).

3) Do I need to get another HD adapter card? Or reciever to allow this
TV set to accept Hd signals? If yes where the hell does it go on the
TV? any sites that show how to hook up all the various components?
You have an component input for 1080i (as I mentioned). It does have to be
set up properly in your netcommand....
I have from the sat box 3 black lines and white , yellow, red out to
TV.
On the back of the Sat it looks like I have the HDMI plug in spot but
not on the back of the TV. Likewise I have the red green blue hook ups
on the back of the TV but not on the back of the SAT box.
The 811 specs shows that it has component outputs. Are you sure that it
doesn't have them?
Any ideas on this? Is there some kind of go between switch
Here is one unit. There are many others that can be had for less, depending
on your needs.

There is a lot of info out there but after hours of looking I am at a
lost for this specific set. Most of the info I can find is on newer
components and I am not exactly sure how mine fits in.
any help would be greatly appreciated here. Sorry the questions are
so basic
