Yes. The better brand name plasmas will have better black levels, superior color gamut, better viewing angles, better looking picture (IMO) and are less expensive for same size screens. Cons to the plasmas are: 1) more reflective screens which can be a problem in brightly lit rooms or rooms with lots of windows during the day, 2) lower resolution which is a drawback for computer use, and 3) burn-in concerns if using the TV very heavily for gaming,
