The Akai Plasma may be either a Samsung or and Akai. Differences are suttle,
such as coding within the serial numbers and slightly different colours of
the cabinet. The Samsung based sets are the same colour as their projection
DLP sets. The Akai are darker grey, approaching black. Makea a major
difference when ordering specific replacment parts when servicing.

Can't say about plasma, but I bought an Akai HD set almost 2 years ago,
and have been very pleased with it. (It's actually a Samsung, rebadged).
I
bought it at Sam's Club for about $1200. Some people say they've never
heard of Akai, but I'm sure I remember the name in audio components from
a
long time ago. I'm not sure that means anything. :-)

I can vividly remember the AKAI brand from my USAF days in 1960's, they
made
high end tape decks! and bought them on bases.
