I have a new Vizio L32 HDTV LCD. The picture looks slightly washed out if not
viewed almost perpendicular to the screen. It's still watchable, but loses some
snap. Is this normal for an LCD TV of this size? (This is my first LCD TV.)

Thanks.

*Some* of the newer ones will handle a very wide range. I can stand
to the side of mine (Samsung LN-S4092D) to the point where the I can't
see the image well, but the contrast and color are just fine. The
listed spread is 178 degrees (horizontal and vertical viewing) which
would be almost 90 degrees either side of center which means the image
holds up well beyond the angle at which the image is comfortably
viewable. With the set in a corner I can walk over to the wall on
either side and still see a clear, clean, and crisp image.

LCDs vary over a very wide range for viewing angle, contrast range
(some as high as 10,000:1), response times and brightness as well as
resolution.

Both my TV and this 20 inch computer monitor are Samsung. The
computer monitor has a contrast range of about 800:1, while the TV is
5,000:1. (Blacks are really black) The viewing angle on the TV is 178
degrees while on this monitor is closer to 90 degrees horizontally and
maybe 45 degrees vertically which means I can view the TV from most
any where in the room. (Divide that angle by 2 to come up with how
far you can move either side of center)

I think the TV response time is 5 ms and it's 8 ms for the computer
monitor which means both are very fast. I don't remember the
brightness of the computer but the TV is 500 cd/m^2. I do know I had
to reduce the computer monitor brightness considerably as it was too
bright to view comfortably.

I would have liked to have picked up the new Sharp HDTV but couldn't
find one and it's too late now. <:-))
