Re: My new Panasonic Plasma TV

I've had my new Panasonic TH-50PX60U (50") TV for about a week now, and I'm totally blown away by the performance.
Previously, I had a Toshiba 40X80 rear projection CRT HD unit which gave me 5 years of great tv; my daughter has it now.

Picture quality is much better than I ever expected, even after seeing it in stores. A little adjustment to the factory settings makes a big difference.
I'm running Cable via component out, and DVD via HDMI out. The cable channels that are 4:3 format have black bars, which I prefer, HD is as should be.
The 4:3 (SD) program material actually looks pretty good. My old Toshiba tended to make SD stuff pretty grainy and a bit greenish. I think green was the dominant color
because the three colors were projected with the green monitor (and lens) in the middle position.

Because the Panasonic is 50 inch, I thought that I would have to sit at least 10 feet back to get a sharp image. Nope. The image is so good that I could get
a couple of feet closer without observable degradition. For me, that means I can view the screen a little closer and enjoy a more "Theater" like experience.

DVDs look excellent. I have both HDMI and component cables connected, so I can compare them quite easily.
The HDMI connection provides good tight verticle alignment resulting in very sharp images. The component connection provides about the same quality, but the verticle lines are a little more separated giving a slightly larger but less sharp image. Either way it looks great.

When I first connected the Panasonic, before adjustments, I noticed that there was some smearing during fast scenes, like sports etc. Then I set the resolution for 720P (duuhh) and all was stable.

Summary:
Holy Sh$^67!!

Nice Review! Thanks for the input
