Leonard,
There's nothing in what you wrote that speaks of herecy. I agree with
you almost 100%. But I don't see what I wrote as "falacy:"
I have found that this cannot be done by "eyeballing" the adjustments.
I always recommend one of the calibration dvd's like Avia or DVE. I
can say that I was thoroughly impressed with the improvement in picture
quality on my set after a proper calibration.
the OP asked "Can someone tell me how to gage the correct settings for
the following..."
My suggestion was for how to get started. This guy appears to be at
the beginning of his "journey" and a calibration dvd is a good way to
get started. The dvds I've used include very good explanations
regarding the purpose of each setting type and how it affects the
picture quality and the other settings as well. Once this is done then
"eyeballing it" is where it's at.
If that's a falacy, then I intend to continue down my misguided path as
is.
What I meant is that eyeballing is exactly what should be done. To assume
that the calibration with a DVD is the end point is what is fallacious. If
that is not what you meant then I am sorry that I attributed that meaning to
what you posted.
The calibration DVDs are a tool that helps to get a display close to where
it should be and should help one to learn how the adjustments work.
Leonard
