Take a good look at the Sony SXRD,
I purchased one a few months ago and the price has come down on them now.
The plasma won't do split screen or pip if you are a sports fan that is pretty important.
The picture is just awsome on the tv.
Take a good look at www.cnet.com they have reviews on about all the television out there and is a good source for information.
I concur about the SXRD. I have the 60" and the picture is totally awesome. The 50" price is now below $4K.
I recently switched from a Zenith 64-inch HDTV to a Sanyo with 92-inch screen, and we have been very happy with the Sanyo so far. The larger screen seems to be more conducive to a home theater/surround sound effect.
