Salesmen keep telling me that the same company makes 90 % of all CRT
picture tubes, regardless of the brand name on the TV.
Philips, Samsung, Sanyo, Panasonic, Sony, all have good pictures. Do
most of these sets have the same brand picture tube?
Does anyone have a link to information on this?
The CRT industry is consolidating and shrinking substantially but it's not
90% from a single supplier quite yet - nor is it likely to until near the
last breath of tubes
LG-Philips makes about 1/4 of the tubes.
Sony makes its own tubes, even here in the USA.
The Thompson (once RCA) tube manufacturing business was bought by an Indian
supplier last year.
Don't know who Samsung deals with.
And there are some big Chinese/Taiwan players as well.
