Re: What type of hdtv shows standard definition best ?

My Sony KDF42WE655 RPTV is great on SD. This has got to be an Urban legend
promoted by someone who wants to sell a more expensive set. And, all my SD
is OTA!

I'm buying a wide screen TV for my wife.
Almost all the programs/channels she watches are SD.
Was considering a well known rear projection unit, but
a post said it was almost unusable for standard definition.

Most recent RPTVs do a pretty good job at rendering SD. My JVC D-ILA is
quite good, although of course no way near as spectacular as with HD.

The idea that RPs cannot show watchable SD seems to be one of those urban
legends that does not stand up to reality. I think a lot of that is
caused by the fact that a large screen will magnify the limitations
inherent in an SD signal. So if your wife is going to watch mainly SD she
might prefer one of the many reasonably-price 42 inch RPTVs, for example
the Sony A10.
I purchased a 37 in Vizio LCD and have been awed by it..no complaints yet!
