What if the farthest you can get back from a (approx.) 50 x 100 screen
is
8'-1/2" to 9' (due to room size constraints) will that be sufficient
distance? Thanks!
Some projectors have options on the lens you can buy.
As an example, the Sanyo PLV-70 (an LCD projector that I own) has both a
fixed, short throw wide angle lens available as well as a wide angle zoom
lens that replaces the standard lens.
They aren't cheap.
I found some throw curves at

The short throw fixed lens might work in your case, but you have to be
careful about keystone distortion when mounting projectors that close to
the
screen.

I was actually talking about viewing from relatively close up. I assumed
that with a large screen you had to view back from a certain distance.I
could put the projector back another 5' if I had to. I am thinking of
comverting an upsatirs "loft" area into a home theater. The flor space is
only 9 + feet wide but the ceiling goes another 5' past. The bottom line
is I un-expectadly came into about $3,000.00 and am either going to
upgrade my current 30' CRT HDTV to 1 34'" CRT or a DLP. But hey a
projector would be sweet as well. I will have the money in about 3 weeks
and want to hit the ground running before my wife comes to her senses and
realizes what's happening. Thanks for the reply.
Last year I used a big screen and projector for the super bowl (and
nintendo) from about 8-10 feet away. I only had Standard definition at the
time and I thought it was pretty cool. Hard to picture back to then, now
that I've got my bigger HDTV's, but I thought it was great at the time.
