They do compress the signals. Recently, Comcast added more bandwidth to the
single. Now the analog channels are sharper and the digital cable channels
are now almost good enough to record from. The pixilation is toned down
more. The HD channels are in better condition now, but certain channels
still have there problems. Mainly CBS with compression artifacts. The
sound problem that you speak of only happens to me when I try to put it
through the surround sound receiver. Just the TV sound, there is no
problem, but in DD, I cannot tolerate the sound as it breaks up and drops
out.
