Here in NJ you get the local channels, Discovery HD, and PBSHD in HD without
a cable card. That assumes you start out with analog cable that has 90+
channels. If you have the very basic cable that only goes to Channel 29, you
will probably get none, because of a filter they threw in. The CableCard
does nothing unless you sign up for digital service, which is also the only
way you can get the CableCard. With it, you get something like 300 channels.
Pay per View, and On Demand will not work with the CableCard. TV Guide may
or may not.
