It's not so much that it's taking too long: the problem is HD was
implemented about 5 years prematurely in the US.

Nope, unless you count the former Voom channels that Dish Network offers
(though I wouldn't be surprised if those didn't eventually consolidate into
fewer channels due to being money pits). And I don't expect any really
substantial change anytime soon.
