I have been reluctant to plug in a VGA monitor, because of some unfortunate past experiences. I hate that burning smell and I hate the sight of smoke coming from my electronic gadgets.

I made this purchase because I did not have any way of recording and saving any digital and/or HDTV programs for later viewing. I can now record these programs on my standalone DVD recorder as well as on my computer using either my ATI Radeon or my Hauppage USB2 WinTV device so I am happy with my purchase. If it turns out that I can also use a VGA-LCD monitor by plugging it directly into the HFA100, I will be "as happy as a pig in a mud hole".

I looked into this once and it appeared that a 15 Pin RGB" was the same as a "15 Pin VGA". But I couldn't find definitive authority on this. So I never tried it.
