I'd say it depends on how much the HR10 is. If its $299.00 with a $200.00 rebate then its a no brainer. If its $649.00 with the $200.00 rebate I'd chill. Unless your dying for an HD DVR then its really no contest.

BTW, if it is $299.00 with the $200.00 rebate let us know. I'll buy another one for that price!

The best price I've found so far is $488, plus around $30 for shipping.

I hope you realize that this unit won't record anything unless you have
Direct TV. Not even the OTA stuff even though it can be used as an
expensive ATSC receiver. From your first post I assumed you already had
Direct TV. Better think before you buy if you don't.

There are many ways to record OTA digital stations. if you already have
analog recording devices (PVR, DVR, VCR, etc.) you can use the
downconverted output of the tuner to record them in DVD quality, just not
HD. As far recording actual OTA HD, there's probably some units out there,
but I'd guess they are pretty expensive. About $4K for what I wanted (a
four tuner unit). So I just built my own using MythTV. Already had the
computer, so only cost is tuners, and a compatable video card ($35) if you
don't have one. Total cost for a 4 tuner unit is under $1K, including $400
for ATSC tuner cards. Just know what you need before buying.

Yes, I am a long-time DirecTV subscriber, currently have an HD receiver (Sony), and the HD package. My primary TV source is DirecTV, OTA digital channels just add on more options. I've never had a DVR before, and I hear it changes the way you watch TV... I can certainly use some HD time shifting. The question is, if the time is right, or should I wait for the MPEG-4 DVR's.
