I do live in a single family home, in a new development in San
Clemente, CA, which has an HOA. They just increased their monthly fee
from $152 to $176, which irks me no end.
The HOA here handles about 1800 new homes in 1/2 dozen different, but
adjacent, tracts. There is not one single rooftop antenna on any of
them, but maybe 4% have the small dish used by satellite providers.
All other homes are on Cox Cable which provides the LOUSY Motorola
DCT6412 box that is loaded with problems.
Some homes here are adjacent to a "common area," and mine is one. But
my "common area" is a string of shrubs, adjacent to my corner house
lawn, that the HOA waters and trims.
I am about 59 miles from the Los Angeles HD transmitters, but low
rolling hills are immediately to the north, in the direction of L.A.
I'm not sure I can get a signal or not from them? Because of attic
access problems I don't think a "Channel Master 4228" will fit thru my
access point. However, I did find a "Terrestrial Digital DB8" that has
higher hain than the CM that will "squeak thru" the hole. However, it
reatails for almost $100 whearas the CM is about $50 or so. I might
need a pre-amp, I'm not sure. My plan was to first try the antenna
"barefoot" and see what I get, and spend extra on a pre-amp only if
necessary. It would really be GREAT if this works. :) I would very
much like to scrap my Cox Cable STB and buy a HD DVR when something
appropriate becomes available on the market. I sure wish TiVo would
make one. My 3 1/2 year old analog TiVo has never ever missed
anything, unlike the junky "Cox Box." :)
Thank you all for your help and many ggod suggestions!
