Re: Using a splitter

I don't see my cable box hurting the SD channels very much but I'm not
being super critical and I have a small screen TV. There's lot of
variables here but some considerations are how much signal you have at
the cable drop at your viewing location, the sensitivity of your cable
box and tv, and also if you have a VCR in line (the VCR has a splitter
in it further weakening the amount of signal at the tv input). FCC
minimum signal is 0 DbMv and a splitter loss is 4 db more or less. I've
seen very good pictures from a modern tv set at signal levels of -5 DbMv
and to me -10 DbMv still looks very good. You should be fine with your
setup.
I see an amplifier making only a slight difference here anyhow as it
will make just about as much snow as the cable box or tv set will.
You're likely to have more of a problem if there's splitters to feed
other rooms before the cable reaches your viewing location you're
asking about. Give it a try looking at both the lower and upper
channels for more snow or graniness.
