Actually, they don't get in the way. You could have a look at the bttv
project, which pulls the raw transport streams off a variety of
different cards, DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T, all using the same interface. I
beleive they also handle the 8VSB cards too, although I have no
experience in that.

No, analogue tuner cards and digital tuner cards are quite seperate
beasts.

Except that selling hardware or software that deliberately ignores the
broadcast flag would be illegal in the US under the terms of the DMCA.

I'm with him on this. The AVSforum is extremely useful and full of
threads on all sorts of topics in the areas you seem to be interested.
It might not be in your preferred format, but it's certainly packed full
of useful things and IMHO it's worth investing time in reading threads
there. And the best way to find what threads are there is to go in via
the topic menus.
