----I disagree, but you and I have always disagreed about Russell. I think
that
if you have a snake in your house that is guaranteed to bite you, it does
not count as a a member of your family or a number on your side, and you
get rid of it as soon as you can. He would have been loyal, after his
fashion, to Stephanie and Krista, but no one else on his tribe could have
counted on his help. The two girls kept saying," it's a numbers game", but
as Steve alluded to, Russell would turn on them at the merge, and take
any
of his concubines that were left with him, so any hypothetical numbers
that
assumed Russell and his girls would be loyal to his tribe were
meaningless.
I don't see how it's crazy to get rid of someone when you can't count on
them to try to help your team win challenges until the merge, and stick
with
you after it . Yes, he said he wouldn't try to sabotage his team. Did you
believe him? If so, I have some oceanfront property in Idaho you would
love. The Golden Gate Bridge is right in the middle of it.
The funny thing is that Boston Rob is going to do exactly the same
thing. You know the real difference between Rob and Russell? Russell
will throw boiling water on you and spoil. Boston Rob will put you in
water and slowly turn up the heat and smile as you boil without you
even noticing. :-)
Point taken. I'm not a Boston Rob fan; I could not stand him until his last
appearance. But there are some differences between the two. Rob will help
around camp. Russell will not. Rob can be amusing to be around. Someone on
Russell's tribe described him as a "black hole sucking up the light." Rob is
valuable in challenges, especially puzzles. Russell's performance is
somewhat uneven. Boston Rob has not sabotaged his team in the past by
burning socks, hiding machetes and pouring out water. That doesn't mean he
won't, and I'm certain he's capable of it. But the best predictor of future
behaviour is past behaviour. Perhaps that is minor crap, but you just don't
need that kind of irritation. Life there has to be uncomfortable enough,
even without water shortages and blistered feet. My point was that although
Russell said he wouldn't do that this time, I don't believe him. The
biggest difference is that Boston Rob is likely to stick with his tribe
after the merge, and Russell would have flipped like a pancake. Of course,
the numbers each has at their command is the biggest factor there, not that
Rob is by nature more dependable. If I were on Russell's tribe, I would
have done exactly what they did. If I were on Rob's tribe, I would wait a
bit and try to get on his good side.
( just as a postscript, either one would have had me begging to leave the
first day.)
