I've never understood the appeal of Rupert. My sense is that as long as
you worship him he'll be great to you. Otherwise watch out. Steph being
a
competitor and realizing this is a game and not a popularity contest
probably didn't show him enough reverence and Rupert took that as a big
insult and decided he didn't like her and would do his best to get rid
of
her as quickly as he could.
I have a theory about James's behavior. After China he went immediately
to
Micronesia to do Fans vs. Favorites and never got to experience all of
the
adulation from the fans. Thus he was the same on both of those seasons.
But after Fans vs. Favorites he did get to experience the "love" from
his
fans
and I think it went to his head. If what Steph is saying is true aboutIf you talk a lot of the passion and emotion out of the dialogue, a lot of
his
comments about women and him getting a lot of action then I think that
might explain his behavior. He's probably grown to expect, like Rupert,
that people will do what he wants and kiss his butt. Unfortunately for
Steph, I think her admiration ended with their game play and that's why
they targeted her.
Brian
what James said has a ring of truth to it. While I will admit that Steph
appears to have a good attitude and is a competitive person, that does not
mean that she is automatically good at it!
She is beautiful and makes for great television but I really am not sure
I'd
want her on my tribe, other than for eye candy.
I think she's good at the physical feats which is important in a game
like Survivor. She's not the best at the mental feats but that's true
for most of the people on Survivor. I certainly wouldn't rank Rupert
or James as being better at the mental games than Stephanie. What you
also neglect in your discussion is how divisive James was in being so
vociferous in his haranguing Stephanie. From what Stephanie said that
went on for hours before the TC and even for a long time during the
TC. That's not good for the tribe even if everyone agreed with James.
Given that we see James have another mini-meltdown next week (or at
least so it seems in the preview) I would say the real problem is
James. Instead of trying to make the team stronger and tighter by
coming together he's taken on the idea that someone must be
responsible for their troubles and so he looks for the scapegoat. He's
a strong physical presence but if he keeps acting like that the Heroes
tribe might be best served by getting rid of him.
Given their past performances in challenges I would think that Candice
or Cirie would have made a better choice for voting off the tribe than
Stephanie if the goal is to have a stronger tribe for the challenges.
I wonder why Steph didn't target James? It seems like he would have been a
much easier target than Amanda just based on his constant bitching and how
he was pulling the tribe apart. All he has going for him is his strength in
challenges but how many challenges are based purely on strength? Steph
should have also factored in that Amanda and Cirie could be close despite
Cirie's implying that they are not.
