So...I guess the bottom line is that they REALLY hated Russell...and
it is in that part of the game that he failed miserably.

Exactly, the jury were a bunch of poor sports who took the opportunity
to punish the person who bested them in the competition.

And they are completely free to do so, and the players left at the end
should be aware of that and if you want to win you have to counter that
somehow. And that's the part of the game that Russell failed at. Nobody
is disputing that.

I'm certainly not, it is that the jury used that to mask their own
failings and in some cases hypocrisy Erik being the biggest example.
