In NASCAR, you don't use one driver or car to qualify for the race
and then use a different driver or car in the actual event, and then
declare both to be winners if the one who actually runs the race
happens to win the event.
I guess it depends on the sport. In football for example, there are
players (like the second string quarterback) who may never set
foot on the field _during a game_ yet will still get a Superbowl ring
because they are part of the team and could have been called on
to play if necessary.
As far as Crystzilla's gold medal, she deserved to get it as she was
part of the team according to the current rules.
But I also agree with those calling for the 4x400 relay and other
similar (non-contact) Olympic sports to be limited to the maximum
number of players who are actually needed for the event.
