If Alex hadn't been such a show off he would have won the IC. All he had
to do was put in one extra step and he would have won. But no, he had to
try and climb up the pole without using the steps. For that alone he
deserved to go home.
I didn't really understand what Alex's problem was when he got near the
top. Why didn't he just use the flat surface of the top of the big pole to
finish pulling himself up? Alex finished all of the hard part of the
climb, then floundered right at the top which should have been an easy
spot to grab.
Maybe there was a rule against using the top of the pole
It seemed that he just couldn't get his feet up high enough. If he'd just
thought to tuck one paddle in the back of his shorts and inserted it at the
very top, he very well could have won.
He said on the Early Show that he got his knees stuck in the metal
posts sticking out where he was supposed to put the paddle. He said
they never showed that part. He needed medical attention there on the
island after the challenge and then developed a horrible infection
later.
Maybe...they stopped him when he started talking about all the pus but
I'm sure the interview is probably still on the Early Show websie and
you can hear his description!
